Visit to the EAU Agriculture demonstration site in Montreal

I was recently in Montreal and doing what everyone does when they are on vacation, I went for a tour of an Aquaponics demonstration site setup by EAU Agriculture in Montreal.

ÉAU wants to help develop a collaborative local economy based primarily on three interdependent concepts: efficiency, resilience and the empowerment of local people. Efficiency is achieved through the cyclical use of resources; resilience is a state of constant evolution, in which ingenuity and the ability to adapt are combined in order to meet any challenge head on; the empowerment of local people is achieved through education, inclusion, and mobilization.
The tour lasts about 15 to 20 mins and runs three times a day. Basically they run the tour when they are feeding the fish and checking on everything. If your in Montreal, you can find out more about the organization on their website here. http://www.eau-agriculture.com/#!home-page-en/b6pg9

Head on showing the glass into the upper level.

On the lower level, they have three tanks holding the tilapia, as well as the pumps, etc.

    The sump tank.

And last but not least, the pumps.

And of course on the top seacan they have their garden.

One the right side, they were growing tomatoes in buckets

One on the left side were they leafy greens.

If you get a chance, it is an enjoyable way to spend 20 mins, and once your done, you can venture over to the Jean-Talon market which is right next door.

Last but not least, I should have also pointed out that as it is a test site, they are running an arduino WIP system that they kind of have working. It is collecting data, but they do not have the notification working correctly.
