    Yellow perch breeders

    Hi, All

    At the workshop we found out that the females start breeding at 2yrs. Most breeders will keep them for 6yrs. The one they demonstrated with was 8yrs old and produced a very long ribbon.

    Hi Evie,

    I'll be glad to answer any of your questions. What is it you are looking for? General information? Are you doing aquaponics now?
    They like cooler water than tilapia, 66 - 72F. is perfect for the best growth. Are yellow perch native to your area in Georgia ? They are native to this area in Ohio. They are very hardy. Will handle cold weather. They don't do well in water over 78F. They slow down in eating when the water gets below 52F. and above 75F. At least mine do.

    Re: Yellow perch breeders

    I am just doing my research right now... but I heard they are really good fish and grow pretty fast... we live in North Ga but it does get hot here but I was wondering if they would be ok under shade. I have been looking for a place to buy them that ship but no luck so far. I am gathering the things I need to set up my system now.
    Can they be raised on meal worms and earth worms?
    Take care

    do a google search for "Fish Farm" + your zip code, or "pond stocking".. you should be able to find what you want if you keep looking (i still don't have my perch yet, but hopefully soon!).

    ohio state has done some pretty intensive studies of yp..

    a short study on fry production;

    Hi Evie,
    I tried to send this earlier but it disappeared.
    Yellow perch don't grow as fast as tilapia, but if they are sorted and sized regularly some would be ready in about 6 mos. The females will get about 1/3 larger than the males.
    My greenhouse is 2/3 shaded with a silver tarp, it helps with algae and heat.
    Check with your fish and game dept. and Aquaculture Unit of University of Georgia college of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences about growers in your area.
    Meal worms and earthworms will work if gradually introduced with their feed.
