    Maturation of system

    Ive heard that it takes a while for an aquaponics system to become effceint because of the time it takes for the bacteria to grow. What is the average time it takes for this to happen. Would it be a good idea to run he system for that amount of time before you put the plants in. I'm using an nft system if that affects it.

    Take a look at Aquaponics 101 by Oliver...it will give you the best head start on infor for getting your system up and perculating.

    The average time to maturity is not a finite amount of time. Every system is different. It could take a year before higher nitrate production occurs. Keep testing the waters and as production increases, find a place to use them up. Or.......

    Welcome to the addiction.
    As already stated....Oliver's 101 thread is a great place to start....and each system is different.....
    Tell us about your setup and if possible post some pics so we can see what you are working on....
    One of The good things about this forum is the amount of experience/knowledge and they are willing to give it free....
