No nitrates yet??

I have for about 12 days now been adding Ammonia to 3PPM, going back to zero in a day or two. Nitrites have been going up to about 4 PPM, and back down to zero. But have never really saw the nitrates get above 1PPM. I do have a few plants in the system, but not many. Just wondering if this is normal? The few plants I have are not doing great, which I kinnda expected. But just wondering if this is just the process. This is my first attempt at this?

yup, just be patient.. dose with maxicrop.. as your system matures it will perform better..
it can take 4-8 weeks to cycle, my first took about 6 weeks, second and third system took maybe 4 weeks using media from the older system

Ditto - just hang in there and give it time, and some maxicrop will help the plants in the meanwhile and supply micronutrients that could otherwise be lacking. My system took about four weeks to cycle with ammonia.
