Well I've managed to hobble a system together from bit's and pieces I had layin' around mainly. It ain't much but it's been feeding me salads for a coulple of weeks now.

The FT is a 55 gallon aquarium I've had for years. It has an old HOB filter, a corner airstone filter, coulpe of 12' airstones, and a 300w heater all of which I already had. I have it sitting right on the floor insulated against heat loss with a piece of 1" rigid foam.

The current livestock

Water flows off the bottom of the FT into a rubbermaid tote/kitty litter bucket solids seperator through a couple of overflow siphons. One will handle the flow but I went with redundancy for piece of mind. The solids seperator is filled with scotchbriite pads, nylon pot scubbers and birdnetting. On hindsight I should probably remove the solids before they hit the biomedia to facilitate easier cleaning. I'll get that on my next system.

From the solids seperator water flows to a sump I added for more water volume when I added a couple of more small growbeds. The sump holds the pump and is stuffed with more bird netting as biomedia. After these pictures were taken I've added more rigid foam under both rubbermaid totes as I was losing to much heat to the concrete floor.
