    Hi

My wife and I have decide to take the jump. We have a lot of question. Hope to have the hoop house up in October we are planing a 20`x 30` house. Hope to have fish going my the end of February 2011. The fish we are planing to grow are tilapia and yellow perch we hope on the perch if we can find someone to sell us some. We plan to use 2 x 10` pools and to 2 x 8`pools {WATER AMOUNT 14.963 LITERS OR 3.950 GAL} . What we would like to know is how do you find out how much grow beds space do we have to have to filter the water. Oh we were thinking after we get up and running we could put about a 130 - 1/2 lb tilapia in one 8` pool and some where around 60 - 1/2 lb perch in the other 8`pool. The 2-10` pool are for grow out. Hope were thinking right.

    Hi KY_AquaFramer......welcome

Which type of grow beds were you thinking about ? Media filled...or maybe troughs with rafts ?

We were look at media clay, and maybe build something like a step where the water comes down from the top and run maybe three steps and back in to the tanks

    Re: Hi

    sounds like an awesome system..

a couple of general figures.. if using a grow media, with a newer system, i'd probably stick to the 25lbs of "grown out" fish to 100 gallons of media..

minimum growbed to fishtank should be close to 1:1, but 2:1 (2 gallons of gb to 1 gallon ft) seems to be closer to an "ideal" - but i think this could probably go higher, just monitor water (gotta have enough nitrates for the plants)

there's a place near cincinatti, i think jones fish.. they deliver fish to ky - check your state regulation, in ohio we have to have a "license" if intending to sell fish and certain fish aren't allowed.. anyways, i'm not sure if there will be yp available in feb, you might have to wait till april or so - check local land management groups, i found out after i finally got perch that quite a few communities set up fish buying groups

    best of luck
