    Howdy from Dallas TX

Greetings all, I'm glad to have found this site, seems to be a lot of activity. I feel somewhat miniscule following RS's "hello", I don't have near as much to offer.

I've had a Koi Pond for almost 20 years, and have been active in local Koi Clubs. I would say that I'm an experienced fish keeper. I retired 4 years ago and have taken up veggie gardening. This is hard to do in North Texas because of the intense heat. You just can't keep enough water on the big plants like tomatoes, beans etc. So, I've been thinking about pumping some filter water from my pond's settling tank to some ebb/flow grow beds. All of this is in the planning stages at present while I learn more. I do have some questions, such as - is anyone on this forum using a Koi Pond as their nutrient source? Another question would be how to determine if I'm feeding enough nutrients to the plants. There will be lots more questions to follow - I'm sure. Gonna be 100F this weekend, no rain in sight!

Koi work well. You can also feed veggie scraps to them.
As far as if the plants are getting enough, they will tell you. You can sample for nitrate, phosphate, potasium and phosphorus if you want to be scientific, but look for deficiency in the plants and add non-toxic suppliments in low quantities to compensate.

Ask your questions in the appropriate forum and we'll jump in and help. Start with heat tolerant fast growing plants and adjust as the season changes.
