    pretty slick, saves territorial fights among the fish. you can sure rack up a lot of fry this way.

    I just wonder how their survival rates compare with having the parents raise them under optimal conditions. I have not read up on how they behave yet breeding 'naturally'. It's strange they didn't use a natural method as a comparison also. Perhaps it is already determined that natural yields are much lower.

    Natural is better for survival, but not in numbers. The females hold the eggs for about 3 weeks before they spit. In that time they don't eat. They need to put on wieght before they breed again. By stripping the eggs early the females can produce more eggs over time and more than offset any small loss of production.

    I've stripped and tumbled eggs many times. Losses are low and this is a standard method in cichlid breeders.
