If i built a system with a bio filter, could I use rock wool instead of hydroton or limestone? I would like to experiment with a drip irrigation system as well as a traditional constant flow, flood and drain and NFT. My goal is to build beds with platforms made of lighting diffuser where various sizes of rock wool cubes will be placed, and then each bed will have individual features so that it can best perform its job. I would also like to experiment growing microgreens and other dense seeding plants using hydroponic pads placed in the bottom of trays. I think that if I use fine-grade egg crate i can avoid algae problems, but I am not sure if that will cause issues for the roots. I am not an expert, the goal of this is to experiment with different methods so that I can one day apply the most efficient one(s) on a business scale. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.
