    Howdy from North Carolina

I found out about aquaponics in March and started the same day in a few plastic containers

and worked my way up to a hot tub in July for a fish tank.

I grew strawberries and lettuce at first and then moved to jalapenos and tomatoes for the summer and back to lettuce for the fall. I just built a new swirl filter for the system.

and I built a sand filter to try to clear up some of the water clarity.

There is many more details to the progress of the garden over the last 6 months but I wanted to keep it short for now.

Tomcat welcome to the forum...your videos are great but we turly desire the posting of photos. We can scroll through them and pick the ones we want to study to see how things were done without having to stop and restart a video over and over.

So far it looks as though you have done a great job...remember photos so we can ask questions.

Welcome Tomcat. Always glad to see new addicts.

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for the heads up. I have been making a video diary about my aquaponic experience so far this year because it is usually the easiest way to share to others these days, not to mention that I love the "pouring water" sound that is strangely hypnotic. I will take some screenshots of some of my latest filter and plumbing ideas and post them with a decent write up on what I have and how it is run.

Thanks for the tips and any others are greatly appreciated.

    Re: Howdy from North Carolina

    First try with pics!
I made a sand filter the other day. Here is how I did it.
I used a five pound bucket and drilled 1/4" holes through it and a few holes in the top.
I put the pump in the bucket and sealed it up. Connected it to the two inch pipe. In the two inch pipe, I added pool filter sand up to the top of the 90's. This spills back to the tub.
I added a four inch extension to the effluent side to help gravity keep the sand in the pipe and it hasn't lost a grain yet (not shown). I plan to add this filter "after the swirl filter but before the beds" in the future.
