    New aquaponist here...

Hello there. I am a new aquaponist. I have been maintaining a koi pond for years and now would like to start growing my own food with a separate aquaponic system. I am thinking about buying a IBC for the fish and building 8" deep media beds. I have about 90 linear feet to install 3' beds. I don't know how much cubic feet of media to build yet. Working on getting the details ironed out.

    welcome aboard..
the only thing i would recommend is to maybe consider having your beds a little deeper.. you'll be providing more surface area for the bacteria and have (imho) more stable plants...

You could use the water from your KOI for the nutrients....that's what I do. OH, and welcome the addiction and just so you know right up front there is no shot and no known cure for Aquaponicsistitus.(new word...what do ya think) You're done for now...

Use the water from you Koi pond and just circulate it through the grow beds. I would start with cheap and easy to get your feet wet, so to speak. I like the tanks cut for growbeds but there may be less expensive ways to do it, I am not sure. I can get used ones for about $90 which for two 4x4 beds with stands you can't beat.
