sump tank and how it works

any one got a pics or a good video on how a sump tank benefits the system ?

i have not used one yet, but i have one burried inside a greenhouse, just wondering if it is worth buying another pump

i dont think it will work for me, since i didnt put a drain in the tank when i burried it, and both of my tanks are burried at ground level. might just use it as another system or something.
