Re: MY Rooftop System, Near Completion! (PHOTO TIME :D)

You could drop a liner in the tank. The corners are a pain to fold in a tank like that but that is what I did. I now just use them for poop storage. I have one of the bins with a slot cut in the lid that fits my weed wacker so I can fill it a 1/4 the way with paper scraps and nail them with the weed wacker to make them bite size for the worms.

I did switch over to a kiddy pool that I garbage picked then used it for my sump/raft tank. There are so many right now on craigslist for free its ridiculous. people are giving away the cheap ass intek ones with the steel frame and the inflatable but I would not trust them in a finished basement over a solid plastic one. I got a plastic one but still made a berm of cinder blocks lined with cheap plastic around the area making sure if it blew out most of the water would go down the drain and only a little would leak under the berm.

Cheapest replacement options will be on craigslist. I see a 1000 gallon tank on there right now for 200 that only held water before.

chicago area. Another guy has been advertising 1625 gallon tanks for 225, he had four of them I think but I do not see his ads now.

i wish i could create a larger system, however since i do not have a garden and whatever i build is on the roof, weight is a serious issue. i was already terrified that my 55 gallon system is going to crash through the roof as it weighs about 900 pounds.(which is why i added support beams on the bottom of it.)

    Some updates

My new tank under construction. the stupid rubbermaid cracked in the same place as the last one!

Various Lettuces and peppers, cant wait till they go upstairs!

The rosemary branch i took off from somewhere is starting to flower.

What seems to be a pine tree, must have been blown from the nearby trees as a result of the violent winds not long ago.... its gonna stay.

A nice eggplant added to the system.
