Hello from Los Gatos California

Hi all,

I'm in LG, California and started experimenting with aquaponics 2 months ago. My current system is outdoors, ~100 ga. grow beds, and 100 ga. pond tank. I have a dozen or so goldfish in the tank, and 6 small koi. My grand plan is Tilapia farming with a larger home system. I currently have a breeder colony to feed the fish portion.

I am experiencing some challenges ranging in complexity from deer to highly variable water temperature, and no nitrates.

yes, my water temperature in a 600gal in ground vat has varied in temperature from 48 to 68 in the last week and a half here in almaden valley, it's hell on everything.

Thanks everyone! very addictive indeed. I added a small heater to my system today to see if it helps. I'm curious to see how warm the water will get on hot days when it is kept at 70 during the night. At what temp does root damage occur?
