barrelponics is a great intro into aquaponics, i started with a system based on travis' design...i made 2 pairs of growbeds, each with it's own flood/flush tank, and used a 110gallon rubbermaid stock tank. the (black plastic) stock tank got too warm for yellow perch, but the bluegill survived. i could probably do a short tilapia season.. what kinda fish are you thinking about using?
