Bagh-e-Abdul or The garden of a man

Hey heyy, I've had the AP bug since about June this year, got my first system up and running, will soon be working on a big expansion using a family friends pond and if all that works out then am going to become a farmer :mrgreen:

The system is made up of three 75 liter plastic crates, populated by eight goldfish, six tiny cichlids and one crayfish, which will hopefully soon eat the cichlids.

The bamboo is a part of a trellis on the side of the roof there, gives us a little privacy from the neighbors and looks good too. Am planning a GH for someone, will make it with a bamboo trellis and plastic stretched over it.

Things come along very nicely, lots of cucumber seedlings up and running and a couple more coming up too, they're not big enough to tell what they are yet, but next weeks update should have lots of new green in it :D

Things going well, think pH is too high though, will try to lower it in a few days with some more iron sulphate and sulphate of potash, right after i get my test kit and fin out what the pH is!!!

Have no test kit so no idea :[

Have litmus paper, did a test with that about a month ago and it was basic. Will do another tonight. Hopefully should have test kit in a day or so.

Why are you using iron sulphate and sulphate of potash to lower the pH instead of vinegar or hydrochloric acid (food grade of course)?

I'm using it to add iron and potassium, the pH lowering is just a beneficial by product.

Going to use lemons to lower pH once I have a kit and can measure it :[

Very interesting! Have come chili growing in dirt downstairs, but this sounds really interesting, will find out and try to plant :D

A hoy hoy! Found out about those chilis and those are the ones we grow here all the time, not sure if they the ones in my system but still have access so will definately grow them.

Hi Abdul,
Good to see your regular posts in the last weeks. In just an off-hand observation I am guessing that the vine type plants that you have in AP are aggressive growers. The volume of leafing and the number of blossoms require much of the available nutrient in your system. Blossoms i.e. flowers are "needy" nutrient grabbers. Pinch off some of the blossoms in a cluster to see if you can get others to set. Do you know for certain that more than one plant of the species may be needed to cross-pollinate? Such is the case with corn for example. Corn is a full sun heat loving plant. In Pakistan I expect you have plenty of both. Your dirt corn may be doing better in full sun than the AP corn in partial shade. If as you said it has the added benefit of AP watering you will be seeing tassels on the cobs soon.
You appear to be gardening on a patio or roof terrace. Nice place.

Hey Dennis, am gardening on the roof. Today noticed the AP corn put up its flowers nice and tall so hopefully should see some action there soon.

The vines are aggressive but in my test a little over a week ago there were nitrates in the system, will be checking again today.

The clusters usually open one at a time anyways, am pretty sure its a problem of them being eaten now as have spotted birds sitting up there. Had a bit of excitement with finding the GB being stuck in continous flow today so a little distracted from the flowering as is. Must do another test today and see what it turns up.

Hey David, its winter in my neck of the woods, its pleasant in the day and a bit cold at night, not sure about tempratures but I'm not having to wear a sweater still, the weather report says 27 C highs and 10 C lows, have seen water temp at 28ish in the afternoon and 22ish in the late morning. humidity is low and the days are short, is dark by six thirtyish I think. The weather service has been forecasting a cold front coming in but it doesn't seem to be here yet...
