I am wondering if anyone is raising Red Claw Crayfish? If so, please post some pics. I am trying to figure out how to add it to my system's design! Thanks in advance

i'm considering ordering some, but plans are still in my head for the most part. i brought parts of my system indoors for the harsh northeast ohio winter. I have 3 tanks, 1 with bluegill, 1 with yellow perch, the 3rd is going to be for the redclaw.
right now the plan is looking like using an 8' dia snapset pool (18" deep) in the basement. i'll probably put the pool on top of foam insulation with a heating blanket, then the pool on top.
i'll probably need to add a filter to my system, since i only have 1 pair of growbeds in the basement.

I've posted a lot on these. Keep them apart physically from the tilapia so the baby crays are not eaten. They canb share the same water as long as the nitrates are kept below 50 ppm. They benefit from about 75 ppm salt. Select plants that can deal with that.

Badflash, you have been my inspiration for the red claw crayfish! Thanks again! I will search around for more details, but basically I wanted to get an eyeball of what a system looks like and how it all fits together.

I'm using redclaw in one of my tanks with the goldfish - nothing special only change to having silver perch is that i throw in vege scraps every 4 days as well as standard fish feed. they have been coming along nicely. Caught a female from my dam loaded with EGG's and managed to have about 50 survive...

It won't load. Point me to the search page and what you typed in and/or the title of the publication. I would love to read it! Thanks :geek:

Redclaw sound like something fun and different, but I would like to taste redclaw to see if I like them before I spend money on buying live ones to stock. Do any of you know of a company that sells them frozen? It would be great if they shipped them directly to homes too.

It supposedly tastes very much like lobster, but I have never tried these breeds specifically. I will have some this season, and if all goes well I would be more than happy to send you a frozen sample! LOL

I'm going to remember that UrbanFarmer! Thanks for the offer. They are a very appealing sounding crayfish to grow.

Good Morning,
I realize this string of posts is several years old now. But I am curious as to whatever came out of it? While too cold right now, I am on the hunt for some of these. I have found ONE company that sells them, but is not cost effective. Ideas? Thank you.

No such luck finding any new sources for them that route. I guess I will just have to save up and order them from FL.
