i did not know about the VA discounts until i read the thread here. i do a lot of shopping at Home Depot as a contractor, they give me a 10% discount on everything i buy personal and commercial. i have 3 accounts with them, and they have never declined giving me the discount. since the original thread is locked i just wanted to say thanks so much for the info.

What exactly did you have to show them? My drivers license says "armed forces" on it. Will that do it? With what I spend per year at the depot, I sure could use it.

Anything will do that shows you are a VET. I used my DD214.

according to the stores in my area (5 home depots in 6 miles of my home) they will accept either an active military card, a dd form 214 or the best thing is to go to you local va facility, like hospitol or whatever and get a va photo id. it's worth the hassel, i have saved hundreds of dollars in the last couple of months. plus i found out because of agent orange i am entitled to some disability monies and that is a good thing. :D

My HD will not accept a DD214, but they do offer the discount with any other valid ID. I have not checked Lowes because my friend works there and I often get 50% or better discounts!!!
