Just a quick hello from upstate NY.
I'm trying to wrap my head around all of the info on this site and plan out a
small home system. I've got some gardening and hydro experience under my belt.
I also used to raise fish, many moons ago. Now it's time to marry all of this together
and come up with a system that will work from me.

I'm planning on keeping the fish tank in the basement. And have grow beds outside for
the summer months, and inside for the winter. If that works out, I'll look into a greenhouse
of some type to expand the outdoor season. I'm also trying to keep the electric bill down
so I'll be looking into doing so type of solar water heating.

At some point I'd like to expand the fish tank to a second with freshwater prawn.

Badflash, I'm just up the road from you. Do you offer tours? :D

Thanks for a great site with lots of info.
Bob

There is a tour on this site, but sure, you can come down. The place is a mess with the upheaval of my greenhouse build.

What you propose is possible, but the transition from winter to summer and visa versa can cause an upset that could cause an ammonia spike. Both would need to run together before you shut one down.
