Don't throw them away recycle it.

Take one of the old bulky windowsill water coolers, you you know the ones you use to blow water cooled air into your home.

place a float tank on top to grow lettuce or herbs, bore small holes to allow the water to trickle through the filters (which double as a bio filter as well), on the bottom you make the water tank large enough to raise crayfish or freshwater prawns (or make a large tank supported by a frame for fish), the water-pump takes the water back up to keep the water circulating. place the unit in your window to provide cool air into your house.

this unit would be limited to warmer climates and seasons but still a wonderful way to diversify.

Stay cool

Are you talking about swamp coolers? Never seen them around here. I've seen them a lot in arid parts of the US.
