I didn't see a seed thread specifically so moderators if this is in the wrong place I'm sorry. Could someone advise me if this is a good deal?

Towards the bottom are different pack deals I was looking at just getting the 5 pack deal for $189. If it's a good deal I figured it would have me set for a while.

I guess if you plan to use each seed. But half the fun of gardening is procuring your seeds and seedlings.

Which I plan to do, but you have to start somewhere. If there's a better way please advise because I'm just trying to get started

Personally, I would not spend that much on seed.
How big is your system and do you really need that much seed?
Fresh seed is always best and trying to store unused seed takes space.
You can pick up fresh seed pretty cheap and once you start your plants, then you can practice using the cuttings and growing the plants out to seed.
Just my opinion....but on the other hand....I am cheap :-)

The big box stores have seeds out already so grab a few packs for cheap and get the plants stared cooking. Then decide if you are going to need a stockpile. Just my theory on it.

Aloha don, I'm in the middle of setup. I have a 50 gal tank, a 20 gal tank, some totes from lowes to use as gb. I was considering setting up a raft of sorts, cups or a basket sitting in a pvc return pipe to the ft. I'd like to cycle the water to the 20 gal tank from the 50 gal ft to use it as the filter tank, then pump from there to the top go and let gravity take care of the rest. As far as seeds I am looking for a good source, somewhere to get heirloom seeds from to get started.

sounds like a nice little system you are starting.
Would love to see pics of it when you get a chance.
IMO - I would not worry about the heirloom seeds as you are just starting out.
I would start green leafy veggies and make sure the system if fully cycled and ready to handle the nutrient hogs that you want to get started.
what type and how many fish you starting with?
Keep checking your water....
Best of growing for you...Let us know what you decide

I'd like to start out with 2 gb's and about a dozen raft style plants so whatever it would take to get that going. As far as fish I think right now just starting with goldfish and later on getting tilapia or something along those lines. I still need some suggestions on where to get seeds to start out with.

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot. They have a great selection of good seeds and they are inexpensive

Hi Admsjas,

I don't know anything about that brand of seeds....?
However, stocking up on seeds is a great idea. Someone already mentioned the 'freshness' factor. However, seeds can be stored (indoors) for a few years, they just drop the % that may sprout.

If your just starting to garden....check with your local extension agency. They can provide you with a ton of info for "your" area. Such as when and what types of veggies to plant. For example, tomatoes I grow in central FL may or may not be good for IN.

There are several reputable seed vendors....just a few I use are...
-Johnny's select seeds... http://www.johnnyseeds.com/
-Tomato Grower Supply... http://www.tomatogrowers.com/
- heritage tomato seeds.... http://heritagetomatoseed.com/

Just a thought....Tomatoes can get out of hand in an AP system....some growing to 15 feet and more.
So this time around...I ordered several types of 'dwarf' tomatoes. A dwarf is generally considered less then 4 feet.

davidstcldfl, thanks for the info. I plan on growing indoors so temps shouldn't be an issue. I'll be getting some seeds from those links, thanks
