I've been looking into a solution for covering my sump and fish tank. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions or has used the following option?
http://www.amazon.com/Ft-Blue-Poly-Pallet-Cover/dp/B007232TCA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367374729&sr=8-1&keywords=pallet+cover

Do you think it would block enough light to prevent algae growth?

Thanks!

White or silver in color would be better and before you buy it, take a look at some of the bargain stores. It doesn't have to be fitted or that expensive.

yeah, those look nice being fitted and all,, but you'd probably have to put some holes in them for pipes.. i used a flat blue tarp for a while, but lighter colors as jco noted would be better
shade cloth or a shade sail would work too

Thanks! I can only find it in blue currently. I picked up a couple of them. The last one I linked was a 5pack. Here is the single.

We will see how they hold up.

Hi. I'm new to this so please bare with me.... I'm reading that most people want to block the algae.. Why is that? Ive had an outdoor pond for years and found that It provides more oxygen and fish (goldfish and koi) usually like to eat it. Also, will it stress the fish to never have any sunlight?

algae will consume nutrients that you want to go to your plants

I don't put on covers, or paint the plastic. I personally don't believe the nutrient consumption is substantial enough to offset the benefit the fine algae provides. Algae also helps to harbor micro organisms that are beneficial to both fry and balancing your system.

It really comes down to preference.
