Hi, I've been learning about aquaponics online for several months now and I've just purchased a used water tote backyard system. I am eager to get my hands dirty and decided joining this forum would be a great start. I have lived in Las Vegas for the past 8 years but hope to eventually operate a small scale commercial operation in Southern Indiana (hometown area). I am looking forward to participating in this great forum.

Welcome! Read loads. Ask lots of questions. Avoid gold fish or feeders to start.

I will clarify with 1000 words... or 3000 words. Whatever. I am buying this from a guy on craigslist. He moved and doesn't have enough sun to grow anything anylonger.

Unfortunately it is coming with large goldfish. I suppose I should try to move to something more productive sooner rather than later.

Hi Elronmaynard, welcome to the forum.. :)
We had a guy join not too long ago from on the other side of Mt Charleston...in Pahrump. Maybe he'll spot this and sa 'Hi' to you.

I belive, Badflash's (and JCO's) coment about buying goldfish, especially the 'feeders' was in concern of the fact, that they are so often 'sick' fish. And that's not a good way to start.
'If' you end up with 'healthy' goldfish, they are pretty tuff. The heat and cold doesn't seem to bother them much. And they eat like pigs and supply lots of nutes for your system.... ;)
Seeing as how his is alive, it is a pretty good indicator, that they may be fine.

I saw your post in another thread, you said you needed to learn about cycling.
Oliver has written some great threads for new folks...

Thanks David, I was hoping to find an Aquaponics 101 thread. I'm glued to it now. Thank you to Oliver! I will name my biggest fish after him.
