Just got my aquaponics system up and going a couple of months ago. Have 3 fd gravel beds on bellsiphons that have some kale and basil in them right now. my fish tank is inground liner with 25 talapia that seem to be doing fine. Not any serious setbacks yet but still tweeking the system. Glad I found this form as it seems like a good one. I live in NC.

Hello and welcome...

You mentioned raising tilapia in North Carolina? What kind of heating system do you have, or what kind of low temps do you get there? I live in Naples FL and am raising tilapia, and even though we rarely ever get a light freeze, my 800 gallon system that has a insulated fish tank, gravel growbeds, and sump tank only hold temps about 5 degrees warmer than the coldest night. Water temps below 50 degrees can start causing huge problems with tilapia. Even with water around 60 degrees, the tilapia quit eating and just hang out on the bottom of the tank, half dormant. I finally broke down and bought a 1000 watt heater the other day, and am confident that I will need to use it sometime.

We all look forward to seeing some pics of your system.
