Has anyone attempted cloning plants in a GB? I stuck some blueberry cuttings into my GB to see if they will root. Also stuck a couple grape cuttings. About 2 weeks ago, I pulled up a small cantelope or cucumber seedling that took to a crack in the sidewalk. when I pulled it out, the roots stayed. I stuck it in the GB and it is still alive and slowly growing.

Yeah, putting cuttings in the grow beds works great. They may wilt a little at first but putting a plastic container over top of it works until it gets some roots.

Tomato cuttings are EASY to root in a grow bed!

bsfman....are you rooting the 'suckers' you pull off larger plants ?

I find that mint sprigs seem to root within a few days...

Absolutely, David! I think here in Florida, it may be possible to keep a perpetual crop of tomatos going just from rooting suckers from the older plants.

I have had success with many herbs. Am trying roses now, the ornamentals seem to have a higher rate of return than edible ones.

well the melon or cuke is still alive. Haven't seen any life in the grape cuttings, but it's early and I don't want to pull them out prematurely. blueberry still looks ok,, will report on progress

How did you do the blue berry? IF it can be done, I have a strong demand for them here I can readily fill from cuttings.
Blackberries seem to do well too, if the cutting is big enough. Small cuttings die.

The blueberry were really small cuttings, maybe 6-10 inches long. Just for the heck of it, I took an old celery stalk, one that we ate virtually all the celery on, and stuck it in the GB, it too came to life!

Will post some pictures soon.

Celery is well known to be able to be propagated from the end stalk. Often it's divided into protions or cut like a star and the roots come back to life. Green onions do the same thing.

as promised here's some photos

So, I could have cut this stalk up into a few pieces and grow celery like that? hmmm

Seems like the vacuum toggle setup works really well. Now I wonder how long it'll last.

Here are some pictures of the setup.

this is the vacuum element that controls the water valve

Here's one of the vacuum elements that toggles the valve after the autosiphon kicks in.

And finally, the weight, holes were drilled in the bottom to allow for pre-siphon water to discharge as to not trigger the toggle.
