I want to use one or two mechanical filters on my future AP system.
How do you stir up the waste materials in the bottom of the fish tank to drive it? to the swirl filtration or the trickle tank?

Hi, You can try a 'SLO drain'. It'll help pick up the solids from the bottom. You can see a drawing here... Flow or the water (http://www.diyaquaponics.com/forum/showthread.php?507-Flow-or-the-water&p=5004&viewfull=1#post5004)

Most fish are active enough to stir up the bottom.

Thanks David, I've been thinking on adding that to my system. 8-)

Your welcome guys... :)

In my case, I built my tank and I added a small slope in the bottom. I had my slo-drain at the deeper end, figuring the solids would make their way to that end. Seemed to work pretty well.

Fingerlings. Put a few of these guys in there. They keep stuff mixed up. It only seems cruel. They prosper.
