What would be a good price for rough expanded clay pellets or nuggets? Not the pretty red hydroton balls...tan or grey rough nuggets about 3/8 inch in size?

It depends on where you live, your local market, and maybe even the season.

Does 70 cents a pound seem reasonable?

Lava rock is usually cheaper and has almost double the surface area. Even gravel has more than that stuff (and is dirt cheap). Gravel goes for 3 cents a pound, if I'm not mistaken. Lava rock is somewhere close to gravel on that price range.

EC is just so much nicer to work with... even the rough clay.
