i've been thinking about building a tank, but the pool seems to be holding water, with "test" minnows doing ok, so i just need to build growbeds

I think I would just look into buying a stock tank (like one of the rubber maid stock tanks) instead of trying to build a 200gallon tank.

Look for I.B.Cs on Craig’s list. I’ve seen them for 125$ 275 gallons I think.

+1 I forgot to mention that lol...you got it covered though stucco :D

Where are you located? Depending you might be able to find some cheaper. I am in NC and I picked up some I.B.Cs for 20 bucks a piece. They need some cleaning to get rid of the old vegetable oil but that was a good price :D

Also you might think your saving money when you build the wooden tank but after you add the price of the wood, liner, your labor you would come out much better doing as stucco advised.

looked into IBC's....won't fit through my door  I only have a 35" door and the space I have reserved is 44x44x whatever height...

I am in Massachusetts. I did find a place that has IBC's for $100 that had wood pulp or corn starch in them. These will be utilized in the summer when I can have them outside. I have a larger biofilter that will be used to run a couple of them.

you can always pre-cut your IBC(s) before bringing them in.. that's my plan if and when i find some

Does anyone have the exact measurements on an IBC in inches? This might be the route I take....

275 Gal. 48" x 40" x 46"
330 Gal. 48" x 40" x 54"

Hmmm...wonder if I can get 4.5" by removing the door from frame..

remember that's just the cage.. the "bottle" will be a little smaller, and the cage should be able to be taken apart to some extent

Any idea how much smaller the "bottle" is? I talked to the carpenter here at work. He said I'd only get about 2.5" out of removing the door....so...i think 35.5" is the widest part of the door...so...that is the determining factor here....cut the tank down to 36" and wiggle it in?...can I use the bottle out of the cage?

i'm sure you could get an empty bottle through a standard door.. but you'll definitely need something to support it once it's inside..
if i had the "ideal" situation, i'd have a large wood fish tank, and use IBC's cut in half for growbeds

maybe I'll cut a few inches off the cage top and move it in in two pieces...cage...and bottle...that way most of the bottle is supported by original cage. Only the top few inches...which ideally won't have water weight on it...will not have support from the cage.

Off to buy an IBC tomorrow....see what you've started....

plenty of wood fish tanks out there, you can customize it to the space
build a frame, insulate, and put in a pond liner

I wonder if you could cut the metal cage in the right place, pull the liner out... and "rotate" the cage through the doorway onit's side?

Looking down from above:

You could even make a cardboard (or even glue sticks together) flat model to try it with. Just toss it on the floor and try to "rotate" it through the doorway. When you get it to fit, use it as a template to cut the tote cage?

Wooden tanks are nice to have when you plan for a big fish tank, over 1000 gallons. I paid $300 for the 25 by 25 EPDM to cover the inside alone, and used playwood, foam insulation sheets, and 2X6X8 for the sides. I went big, because that way, the water temp does not changes rapidly as weather temp changes, also the water quality is more stable.
