Hello from Phuket, Thailand! Need some help getting started!

Hi everyone :) An interesting opportunity has come up for me to be a teacher's assistant at a school here in Phuket, and one of the projects I'll be involved in is helping the students create a small aquaponics farm at the school. I'm really excited to do this... but! I have no clue! I've never had much of a green thumb or done much gardening, and know hardly anything about fish. What I DO know, is I can count on internet forums to help =]

So! Does anyone have suggestions? Are there some step-by-step 'here is how you do it' guides that would be suited to a group of ~10 year old children? Where do I start? I read the wikipedia page on 'aquaponics' but so far that's about it :D

I want to invite you to read Aquaponics 101 posted here on this forum. The URL is:

After reading the posts, you will probably want to simplify much of what is written so as to make it appropriate for your students.

This forum is a great place to ask questions as there are a number of seasoned aquaponics farmers here who are willing to help you.

Oh we LOVE PHUKET!! Kata Beach is our favorite...we were there 2007. Are you then from USA? Have any more jobs there?? Would love to visit again?!! My cousin living in Kauai, HI, is a missionary and went to FIJI, CAMBODIA and maybe Thailand also to teach AQUAPONICS! Here's a video from one of his friends at the UNIVERSITY....

You know, I think I have heard of it. Sometimes when people get fed up with their aquaponic system not working right I here them exclaim "PHUKET!" Do you suppose it's the same reference? :lol:

oh wow! would be awesome if he was planning to come to Phuket sometime in the next couple months. Maybe he knows someone in his field who will be here?
